After watching a few adverts in class to see the different types of advert there are and being told what product we have to advertise, our group began to think of some ideas of what we were going to include in our advert. Our first idea was to do some sort of stop motion and show the can of Coke going on some sort of journey. From this and having just watched the Hovis advert,we had the idea of showing the evolution of Coke in a similar way to the Hovis advert. To make our advert original, we came up with the idea of adding the evolution of film into in, starting with silent films and going through the advert as technology evolves. To do this, we are planning on using the green screen to show what the different decades look like. If we are to shoot this in 3 hours, we are going to have to make sure that the planning is all fully completed in order to make the filming process more efficient.
Hovis advert - Main source of inspiration
We plan in using well known, worldwide events in our advert because 'Coca-Cola' is a product well known so we need as many people as possible to be able to related to the events. We also need this to happen because we are aiming our advert at a very broad audience.
In order for our idea to fit into the 45 second block, each event is only going to be able to be shown for about 3 seconds, due to the number of decades we wish to represent from when 'Coca-Cola' was first founded. The events we had in thought included the first man in space to represent the 60's, WWI/WWII to represent the the 1910's and 1940's respectively and the jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II to represent the 50's for example.
As well as aiming to make our advert visually appealing to the wide target audience of the 'Coca-Cola' product, we realised that the audio of the advert would have the same purpose. To overcome this problem, our group decided to use a variety of different well-known songs which correspond with the time period being demonstrated in the visuals throughout the progression of the advert.
Finally, as a group we realised that by putting a few clips of different generations together and putting appropriate audio over the top of them that the advert wouldn't be very interesting to watch. The answer to this was to add a short and basic story into the advert. We decided to have two males feature at the beginning, the founder of the product and a police man. The founder celebrates his findings and the police man is wondering what the commotion is all about. He then tries the drink for himself. The founder then steals back the bottle in which the Coca-cola is in. The police man then starts to chase the founder because he wants more of the drink which then leads on to chase through the decades. This also shows that Coca-Cola has been a popular drink right from the very beginning.
